G. David Adamson, MD, FRCSC, FACOG, FACS
Dr. Adamson is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is Director of Fertility Physicians of Northern California and the Fertility and Reproductive Health Institute, a Clinical Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, and Associate Clinical Professor at U.C. San Francisco School of Medicine. Dr. Adamson received his M.D. degree from the University of Toronto in Canada, and his reproductive endocrinology fellowship training at Stanford University. Dr. Adamson has published extensively and is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on IVF, reproductive surgery and endometriosis.
Dr. Adamson is President of the American Society for Reproductive
Medicine (ASRM), (see press release) and a charter member of the Society of Reproductive
Endocrinologists and the Society of Reproductive Surgeons. He has served as President
of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology and on committees at the
Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, and Centers for
Disease Control. He has also served on the National RESOLVE Board for 10 years.
He was recently recognized by Good Housekeeping Magazine as one of the best 400
physicians for women in America. He received the 2006 Outstanding Achievement
in Medicine award fro the Santa Clara County Medical Society.

H. Preston Nelson, MD, FACOG
Dr. Nelson is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He graduated from Stanford University, U.C. San Diego and the University of Washington before training in reproductive endocrinology and surgery at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. Dr. Nelson was Clinical Assistant Professor at UCSF, and currently teaches reproductive endocrinology to Stanford Medical students and physicians at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
He speaks and publishes on fertility research and patient management and his memberships include the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Nelson has received multiple awards for research, teaching and patient care including the National Institute of Health Fellowship Award and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology Mead Johnson Clinical Research Fellowship.

Alex H. Kim, MD, FACOG
Dr. Kim is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Kim earned his undergraduate degree from UCLA and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University Medical School. He completed his residency in Ob/Gyn training at Temple University and went on to complete his specialty training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Yale University.
In addition to teaching at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Dr. Kim has published review articles, textbook chapters, and several research studies in peer-reviewed journals. He also lectures at residency training programs, national Ob/Gyn Board Review courses and regional Ob/Gyn societies on a variety of fertility topics including IVF, PGD, and sonography. Dr. Kim’s memberships include the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. His many honors include recognition for best research by the Philadelphia Obstetrical Society.

Karen Purcell, MD, PhD, FACOG
Dr. Purcell received her medical degree at Yale University where she also completed a PhD in early embryo development. She completed her residency in Ob/Gyn at the University of California, Los Angeles and her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Purcell is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Board Eligible (beginning certification in January 2007) in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Dr. Purcell has been awarded several grants from prestigious organizations including the Endocrine Fellows Foundation Grant and the Medical Scientist Training Grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Her research, including papers on the impact ethnicity has on pregnancy rates, has been presented at national meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals. She has also received honors for teaching, including the Berlex Resident Teaching Award from UCLA.
Dr. Purcell’s memberships include the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology.

Mary
E. Abusief, MD, FACOG
Dr. Abusief received her medical degree from the Southern Illinois
University School of Medicine.
She completed her residency in
Ob/Gyn at the Washington University
School of Medicine in St. Louis and her fellowship in reproductive
endocrinology and infertility at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard
Medical School. Dr. Abusief is Board Certified in Obstetrics and
Gynecology and Board Eligible in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Dr. Abusief's academic honors include being named Resident
of the Year at Washington University
School of Medicine. She also
won an Excellence in Teaching
Award and received an Expanding
the Boundaries Research Grant
from Harvard Medical School's department of Ob/Gyn and Reproductive
Sciences. Her recent research, centered on menstrual functioning
and fertility in women treated with
chemotherapy, received First
Prize at the 2006 New England Fertility Society Annual Meeting. Dr.
Abusief is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine,
the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the
Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology.

Marina Gvakharia, MD, PhD, HCLD
Dr. Gvakharia is a Board Certified High Complexity Laboratory Director in Human Embryology and Andrology and is Director of Laboratory Services, Quality Assurance and Research at the Fertility and Reproductive Health Institute our laboratory partner. Dr. Gvakharia received her medical degree and endocrinology fellowship training, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Endocrinology and Clinical Immunology, from Tbilisi State Medical University in Georgia, part of the former Soviet Union. She then had additional post doctoral training in endocrinology/andrology and served on the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Under Dr. Gvakharia’s direction, the in vitro fertilization laboratory at FPNC/FRHI is accredited with distinction by the American College of Pathologists. She also established and directs the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) program at FRHI. Dr. Gvakharia publishes and lectures on sperm and egg interaction, micromanipulation of gametes and embryos and laboratory management.
Dr. Gvakharia is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, the American Association of Bioanalysts, the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology and the Reproductive Laboratory Technology and Reproductive Biology professional groups.
