Our physicians are very involved in their field, teaching in our regional universities and medical centers, conducting research, and publishing and presenting frequently on topics related to infertility. Mary E. Abusief, M.D., FACOG

Mary E. Abusief, MD, FACOG

Dr. Abusief received her medical degree from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Abusief is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Abusief's academic honors include being named Resident of the Year at Washington University School of Medicine. She also won an Excellence in Teaching Award and received an Expanding the Boundaries Research Grant from Harvard Medical School's department of Ob/Gyn and Reproductive Sciences. Her research centered on menstrual functioning and fertility in women treated with chemotherapy received First Prize at the 2006 New England Fertility Society Annual Meeting. Dr. Abusief is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology.

G. David Adamson, M.D.

G. David Adamson, M.D., FACOG, FACS

Dr. Adamson is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Laser Surgery. He is Medical Director of Laboratories at PAMF Fertility Physicians of Northern California, a Clinical Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, and Associate Clinical Professor at U.C. San Francisco School of Medicine. Dr. Adamson received his M.D. degree from the University of Toronto in Canada.  His did his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology with Toronto General Hospital in Canada and received his reproductive endocrinology fellowship training at Stanford University. Dr. Adamson has published extensively and is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on IVF, reproductive surgery and endometriosis.

Dr. Adamson is a charter member of the Society of Reproductive Endocrinologists and the Society of Reproductive Surgeons. He has served as President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), (see press release) and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, and on committees at the Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, and Centers for Disease Control. He has also served on the National RESOLVE Board for 10 years. Recognized by Good Housekeeping Magazine as one of the best 400 physicians for women in America, he received the 2006 Outstanding Achievement in Medicine award from the Santa Clara County Medical Society.

SCCMA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medicine

San Jose, CA. (Aug. 16, 2006 ) — Dr. David Adamson, while Director of Fertility Physicians of Northern California, was presented the award for Outstanding Achievement in Medicine at the recent SCCMA (Santa Clara County Medical Association) Annual Awards Banquet at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA, held on June 6, 2006. This prestigious award is given to a physician member of the association who, during his medical career, has made unique contributions to the betterment of patient care for which he has achieved widespread recognition. Anthony Dobson, M.D., FACOG, Ph.D.

Anthony Dobson, M.D.

Dr. Dobson is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He earned both his M.D. degree and Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in the Medical Scientist Training Program. His doctoral thesis resulting in his Ph.D. was in the field of Microbiology and Immunology, in which he used recombinant DNA technology to study herpes simplex virus. He then went to the University of Texas, Southwestern, in Dallas to complete his residency where he worked at Parkland Hospital, the busiest hospital for obstetrics in the country. Dr. Dobson then moved to the Bay Area to complete his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California, San Francisco.

At UCSF, he studied gene expression in human eggs and embryos as they progressed through fertilization to the blastocyst stage of development. He then became a Women's Reproductive Health Research Award Scholar in which he studied gene expression in the eggs of aging women. In his laboratory at UCSF, he further studied genes in the folic acid pathway and their role in pregnancy and pregnancy loss. He presented this work as a prize paper at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

This academic work prepared him well to take care of couples having difficulty conceiving pregnancies and carrying them into the second trimester. Although he treats couples with any kind of fertility problem, he especially likes to care for women with egg causes of infertility, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and diminished ovarian reserve. He also is comfortable speaking to and helping women with sexual dysfunction or traumatic past experiences in their quest for pregnancy.

He performs both hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery for a variety of conditions primarily related to infertility. He performs in-office treatment for missed abortions and diagnostic and minor hysteroscopic surgeries. He can also evaluate tubal patency by saline infusion sonohysterography, avoiding fluoroscopic X-rays and iodine-based contrast dye.
Dr. Dobson enjoys spending time with his wife and four boys, skiing in Lake Tahoe, riding bicycles, swimming, and rooting for his children at soccer games and other events.

Sunny Hee Jun, M.D.Sunny Hee Jun, M.D., FACOG

Dr. Jun is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Jun received her M.D. degree from the Boston University School of Medicine where she also received a B.A. in biology with distinction.  She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and received her reproductive endocrinology fellowship training at the Stanford University Medical Center. In addition to English, Dr. Jun speaks Spanish and Korean.

Alex H. Kim, M.D., FACOG

Alex H. Kim, M.D.

Dr. Kim is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Kim earned his undergraduate degree from University of California Los Angeles and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University Medical School. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Temple University and went on to complete his specialty training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Yale University.

In addition to teaching at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Dr. Kim has published review articles, textbook chapters, and several research studies in peer-reviewed journals. He also lectures at residency training programs, national Ob/Gyn Board Review courses and regional Ob/Gyn societies on a variety of fertility topics including IVF, PGD, and sonography. Dr. Kim’s memberships include the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. His honors include recognition for best research by the Philadelphia Obstetrical Society.

Lillian Swiersz, M.D.Lillian Swiersz, M.D., FACOG

Dr. Swiersz is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Swiersz received her M.D. degree from the Stritch School of Medicine in Illinois. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kaiser Permanente Oakland and received her reproductive endocrinology fellowship training at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Swiersz is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society.

Salli Ikuko Tazuke, M.D., FACOG

Salli Ikuko Tazuke, M.D.

Dr. Tazuke is a Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Tazuke received her M.D. degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale New Haven Hospital and received her reproductive endocrinology fellowship training at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Tazuke is Medical Director of PAMF Fertility Physicians of Northern California, and a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Genetics Society of America, the American Society of Cell Biology and the Society for Gynecological Investigation. In addition to English, Dr. Tazuke speaks Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish.

Marina Gvakharia, M.D., PhD, HCLD, ELDMarina Gvahkaria, M.D.

Dr. Gvakharia is a Board Certified High Complexity Laboratory Director in Human Embryology and Andrology and is Director of Laboratory Services, Quality Assurance and Research at the IVF Embryology and Andrology laboratories at PAMF FPNC.  Dr. Gvakharia received her medical degree and endocrinology fellowship training, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Endocrinology and Clinical Immunology, from Tbilisi State Medical University in Georgia, part of the former Soviet Union. She then had additional post doctoral training in endocrinology/andrology and served on the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Under Dr. Gvakharia’s direction, the in vitro fertilization laboratory at PAMF FPNC is accredited with distinction by the American College of Pathologists.She also established and directs the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis/Screening (PGD/S) program at PAMF FPNC. Dr. Gvakharia publishes and lectures on sperm and egg interaction, micromanipulation of gametes and embryos, vitrification, and laboratory management.

Dr. Gvakharia is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, the American Association of Bioanalysts, the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology and the Reproductive Laboratory Technology and Reproductive Biology professional groups. Dr. Gvakharia is a Board Member of the Board of registry of the American Association of Bioanalysts and 2013 President of CRB/AAB (College of Reproductive Biology/American Association of Bioanalysts). She serves as a member of the Patient Education Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

This is a prestigious and important honor, as the CRB is the oldest, most reputable and accomplished professional organization for embryologists in the USA. 

The College of Reproductive Biology (CRB) is a special interest group within the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).  It is the oldest, most reputable, and accomplished professional organization for embryologists in the USA.

The mission of the CRB is to encourage and facilitate collaboration among andrologists and embryologists to further advance data collection, research, laboratory practice guidelines and quality control.
