Fertility Physicians of Northern California (FPNC) congratulates Dr. Robert Edwards on receiving the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for his innovative and pioneering work that created in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Over the past 32 years IVF has revolutionized reproductive medicine and the treatment of infertility and brought an entirely new science to human reproduction. Furthermore, ongoing advances such as preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and stem cell research show great promise for the future of human reproduction and the management of disease.
The acceptance of infertility as a disease and public health issue has been slowly but steadily growing. The selection by the Nobel Prize Committee of Bob Edwards for his extraordinary accomplishments, along with the growing recognition from organizations and governments around the world, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will further even more advances and help increase patient access to reproductive medicine care.
Congratulations Dr. Robert Edwards! Your contributions to reproductive medicine have directly helped resolve the suffering of millions of infertile patients globally and resulted in the birth of over 4 million babies. As a leading center for IVF, Fertility Physicians of Northern California is proud to bring IVF and related technologies to patients suffering from infertility. We celebrate your recognition and are ever grateful for your accomplishments.
